Description

The Buchanan Street Mall Renovation is transforming a historic five-block park corridor in San Francisco’s Western Addition into a revitalized hub for community life. McGuire and Hester is delivering a wide-ranging scope that includes new sports courts, play areas, decorative concrete pathways, stormwater improvements, and the structural rehabilitation of a pre-1906 brick sewer line. Construction is carefully phased to maintain public access, while upgraded lighting, planting, and custom site furnishings enhance the safety and character of the space as work progresses.

This effort reflects close collaboration between city agencies, design teams, and community partners, supported by funding from the National Park Service and California State Parks. Sustainability and equity remain central to the work. McGuire and Hester is exceeding workforce development goals and integrating green infrastructure features such as rain gardens and permeable surfaces. The project is actively reshaping Buchanan Mall into a resilient, inclusive, and vibrant public space for generations to come.
