Enhancing Westborough Middle School

The project encompasses a range of site preparations and protective measures, including coordinating hazardous material abatement alongside a specialized consultant, safeguarding both new and existing asphalt at the main driveway, and maintaining safe traffic control for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists throughout construction. Infrastructure upgrades include installing a minimum 3-inch asphalt overlay with strategic digouts and stripping 4–6 inches of topsoil throughout the field area to prepare for new surfacing and drainage work.

Surface enhancements include applying multi-layer Streetbond coatings to play courts and parking areas, and seal coats across courts, pedestrian walkways, and vehicular/fire lanes for a unified, durable finish. The team is also installing root barriers at newly planted trees, new athletic and recreational fixtures—such as soccer goals, a drinking fountain, volleyball and pickleball systems, and backstops—and constructing pedestrian concrete paving (4" PCC over 6" aggregate base) with upgraded drainage using square catch basins and round atrium-style grates.

Additional structural elements include stair slabs over a 6" aggregate base, ramp paving built per design specifications, and flexible basketball systems that accommodate both regulation and youth play. Subgrade beneath the synthetic turf field is stabilized with a 5% quicklime treatment to 12" depth. The scope also includes targeted demolition of the southern stairway to the lower field and removal of all risers—ensuring a cleaner site ready for new construction features.
