Navigating Utility & Paving Work on an Active Medical Campus

Managing the infrastructure and construction on an active medical campus proved to be a pivotal aspect of our role. Our team implemented a Method of Procedure that ensured precise handling of vital tasks, fostering seamless collaboration among UCSF, the design team, and affected stakeholders. Managing pedestrian and vehicular traffic emerged as a critical challenge, particularly on Medical Center Way, the primary access point for a significant portion of the hospital campus. Our team navigated this challenge, installing various utilities without disrupting access.

Leveraging our self-perform experience, our team contributed significantly to the initial stages of Programming and Design and played a crucial role in overseeing selected Local Business Enterprise subcontractors. These subcontractors have showcased their expertise and value throughout the project.

As part of the Integrated Form of Delivery team, our team took charge of the design and construction of the entire civil scope, encompassing the demolition of existing infrastructure to pave the way for a new hospital tower. McGuire and Hester's responsibilities include the installation of underground utilities (water, firewater, storm drain, sewer, electrical, and medical gas), development of a new oxygen tank yard, implementation of beam and lagging shoring, soil nail wall construction, tie backs, temporary logistics, signalized intersection management, mass and structural excavation, landscaping, hardscape, grading, and paving. All these activities are conducted on an extremely busy hospital campus with ongoing operations, showcasing our commitment to precision and operational sensitivity.
