Description

Battery East Vista features an accessible viewing area, seating, trail maps and interpretation of historic Battery East. The vista's namesake gun battery was constructed in the late 1800s to guard the Golden Gate. It's the only intact brick-and-masonry battery in the area.

As part of the Trails Forever Initiative, the vista was revamped by McGuire and Hester crews. This project included realigning the Bay Trail which improved bike and pedestrian safety; installation of a concrete seat wall as well, and a new parking lot that increases. The result of this effort has enhanced visitor connections to two breathtaking trails in the Presidio: San Francisco Bay Trail and the California Coastal Trail, both of which lend to panoramic views of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.
