Oakland’s Sports Revival

When longtime professional teams left Oakland, it marked the end of an era—but also the beginning of something new. Alongside local leaders, teams, and community partners like McGuire and Hester, the city is writing its next chapter in sports history. Now, a fresh wave of local energy is bringing pro sports back to the Town in a way that’s rooted in community, culture, and purpose. The Oakland Roots SC and Oakland Ballers aren’t just filling empty stadiums—they’re redefining what it means to represent this city. With missions grounded in equity, access, and civic pride, both teams are revitalizing beloved public spaces: From the Oakland  Roots  SC Coliseum  Field  Conversion to the reawakening of West Oakland’s historic Raimondi Park . These projects are more than just construction—they’re about uplifting neighborhoods, activating youth programs, showcasing local art, and giving fans of all ages something to rally around again. McGuire and Hester is proud to support these efforts—on the field, in the community, and beyond.

History & Community

The return of professional sports to Oakland isn’t just symbolic—it’s deeply tied to place. The Oakland Roots SC now call the historic Coliseum home, bringing professional soccer back to a venue that has long defined the city’s sports identity. Just a few miles away, the Oakland Ballers are reintroducing independent baseball at Raimondi Park, a beloved field in West Oakland rich with legacy and local pride. Both teams are community-first, mission-driven, and unapologetically Oakland.

These aren’t isolated efforts...they’re part of a broader movement to reclaim space and reinvest in the city. McGuire and Hester played a key role in preparing both sites for their new eras: converting the Roots’ field at the Coliseum to meet international soccer standards, and renovating the Ballers’ field at Raimondi Park to support a new generation of players and fans. We’re also proud to support the Roots' community initiatives like Longfellow Fields, where our team helped fund youth programming and a landmark public art mural celebrating Oakland’s sports and creative spirit.

Building With Purpose

For McGuire and Hester, this work goes beyond the field. It’s about showing up for the neighborhoods we serve and investing in long-term impact. Whether it’s transforming a professional pitch in record time or preserving the character of a historic neighborhood park, our team approaches each project with care, collaboration, and pride in our local roots.

Our partnerships don’t stop at construction. At Longfellow Fields, our support helped bring a five-story mural to life—a vibrant collaboration led by local artists and rooted in Oakland’s culture. These efforts are part of a larger story: of sports, art, and opportunity intersecting in the spaces that matter most to the people who live here.
