Oakland Zoo Pathway Paving
McGuire and Hester partnered with the Oakland Zoo to repair a key pedestrian pathway near the chimpanzee exhibit—an area heavily traveled by visitors and a main viewing location. The work was carefully timed to align with a planned shutdown of the zoo’s gondola system, minimizing disruption while a large section of the upper zoo was temporarily closed to the public.

Paving the Way at the Oakland Zoo
Crews removed approximately 4,500 square feet of existing asphalt, fine-graded the subgrade, and installed 3 inches of new hot mix asphalt, totaling about 80 tons. An additional 40 feet of new asphalt berm was also added to improve drainage and path definition. Despite limited access and time constraints, the team completed the work in just two days. While on site, McGuire and Hester also addressed several predetermined repair areas at the zoo’s request, helping to eliminate tripping hazards and enhance the overall visitor experience.
