The project, which honors over 1,500 fallen firefighters, involved the installation of a new irrigation system, the planting of trees and shrubs, sod installation for a lush green lawn, and the placement of site furnishings to create a peaceful environment for reflection.

Description

One of the key challenges of the project was managing trade stacking and site congestion, issues that can hinder productivity and increase safety risks. McGuire and Hester addressed these challenges through meticulous planning and coordination, ensuring seamless collaboration with Turner Construction and other trades to maintain a safe and efficient worksite.

In addition to the landscaping and irrigation work, McGuire and Hester played a pivotal role in preserving and reinstalling the memorial’s original sculptures, integrating them into the refreshed landscape. Throughout the project, the team demonstrated flexibility in responding to on-site design changes directed by the memorial’s artist. This included replacing plant materials, adjusting layouts, and even sourcing and replacing trees to meet the evolving artistic vision.

Despite these complexities, McGuire and Hester successfully delivered a finished product that exceeded the expectations of both the artist and Turner Construction. Our commitment to quality, attention to detail, and adaptability ensured that the California Firefighters Memorial continues to serve as a meaningful and lasting tribute to the state’s fallen heroes.
