Desription
Knowing that McGuire and Hester self performs so many site trades, we were asked to provide pre-construction services during the design phase while funding issues were flushed out. For more than a year, several rounds of feasibility, budgeting and design development meetings were conducted prior to ground breaking.
McGuire and Hester performed site utilities (including hot and chilled water lines, sewer lift station, sewer, and storm drains), architectural concrete, ornamental metal work, masonry, and landscape. A notable highlight for the project included biome-esque light wells in the building foyer (see below). These four glassed areas included intricate concrete substructures clad with ornamental stone, irrigated and planted with bamboo, and mulched with decorative stone mulch.
These living and beautiful areas provide natural light and relief from the surrounding built structure. Another notable feature we constructed was the pergola within the Performer’s Garden. See picture to the right. The exciting part of this structure was the warped ceiling plane. To realize this warped plane, a computer generated model was created to drive a 7-axis milling machine. This custom redwood pergola casts ever changing shadows on the decorative stone paving and landscape below.
