Revitalizing Oakland’s Sports Legacy

The scope of work included removing the existing skinned infield, base paths, pitching mound, bullpens, and select grass areas down to a clean sand rootzone. The team carefully reworked the existing irrigation system for optimized zoning while ensuring the in-place drainage infrastructure remained intact and fully functional. A new sand rootzone was blended, laser-graded, and prepared to meet FIFA-approved field specifications before coordinating the installation of fresh sod procured by the Oakland Roots.

With an aggressive project timeline, McGuire and Hester delivered efficient, cost-effective solutions to complete the renovation on time and within budget. The revitalized field not only meets professional playing standards but also stands as a testament to Oakland’s rich sports legacy. By bringing the Coliseum back to life, this project reinforces the Oakland Roots’ mission of uniting community, culture, and the love of the game in a space that generations of fans can continue to call home.
