Lake Merrit Park and Street Improvements for the Municipal Boathouse

Work Performed by the Following M&H Divisions:

Pipelines, Grade, Pave, Concrete, Landscape

As part of the City of Oakland’s on-going effort to re-vitalize the Lake Merritt shoreline, McGuire and Hester was contracted to renovate the 4 acre area surrounding the remodeled ‘Boathouse’, home to the City’s original ‘Municipal Boathouse’. From Lakeside Drive to the Lake Merritt shoreline, the existing landscaping and hardscape was completely removed. New utilities (fire service water, domestic water, sanitary sewer) were installed to service the new restaurant and a new park was created with decorative concrete paths, seating areas and landscaping. Some interesting ‘green’ features we installed were a ‘living’ roof above a structure housing recycling and waste receptacles, a decorative bioswale to filter runoff and pervious concrete surfacing to capture and filter roadway runoff. The Boathouse and Park were re-dedicated in August of 2009 amid compliments from the City and public. All work except for electrical was self-performed by McGuire and Hester’s forces.
