Britannia Oyster Point

San francisco / hathaway Dinwiddie

$3.9  MM

The owner of Oyster Point wanted to build a new biotech office building with underground parking on a seven-acre site that had previously served as a fill site for a large steel mill. They called on McGuire and Hester to excavate 348,000 cubic yards of fill material to 35’ deep, mine for recyclable scrap steel and slag, then process and crush the remaining soils to meet engineered fill requirements for reuse. This excavation was particularly difficult because the steel and slag dumpings had fused together with the soils to create an extremely hard lens measuring from 6’ to 20’ in thickness. McGuire and Hester completed the excavation on schedule, sizing and re-compacting the salvaged materials to generate significant cost savings for the client. Once the excavation was complete, we constructed a 1,200 lineal foot, mechanically stabilized, 40’ high earth wall to level the otherwise sloping site and allow for more reuse of existing soil. Our contract also included installation of all site utilities and rough grading.
